Students excel in languages

NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell with some of the students from the First in Course ceremony.

Students at the Secondary College of Languages received 17 First in Course in the 2021 Higher School Certificate.

The Secondary College of Languages (SCL) has continued the tradition of gaining outstanding results in the HSC with 17 students achieving first place in language courses and 69 students on the Top Achievers list.

SCL’s principal, Sana Zreika, said that this year has been particularly challenging for the students. “This was a uniquely impacted HSC cohort, who had engaged with online learning twice in their preliminary year, only to be faced with a return to remote learning in the lead-up to their final school assessment and the HSC itself”.

”Our HSC students have demonstrated extraordinary strength, adaptability and resilience.”, Ms Zreika said.

Year 12 students, surveyed as part of their exit processes, highlighted SCL’s vision. Their ‘favourite thing about SCL’ was the “connections formed with students and teachers as well as the ability to connect to my heritage.”  This sentiment validates the purpose of the SCL in delivering languages education to build community cultural connections and further acknowledges the extensive long-lasting benefits that language learning brings.

Congratulations to the students who received First Place in Course and those who were recognised as Top Achievers in the 2021 HSC
