Term 3 Week 5 Update

Term 3 Week 5 Update

I just wanted to reach out and express my thanks for your support during the 5 weeks of online learning.

Survey

As we move into the second half of this term and continue with online learning, we would love to hear your feedback about your child’s experience with their Saturday language class. I am keen to hear any ideas that parents/carers may have about how we can improve our delivery of Learning from Home for students on Saturday morning. To provide feedback, please check your email for the link to a short survey.

HSC Update

I also wish to keep you updated on what is happening across our College.

The HSC Oral exams have been cancelled by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and schools have been asked to provide an Oral mark which will be moderated against the rest of the written HSC paper in October. Secondary College of Languages will not be holding another Speaking Examination, other than the scheduled Extension exam. We will be submitting to NESA a moderated estimate mark based on each student’s recent achievement in their course.

Our teachers are experienced professionals and we have proven every year that the marks we send to NESA are consistently close to the final HSC results. All Year 12 modified Trial examinations will be taking place online over the next few weeks. Our teachers have spent a lot of time preparing for the online assessment. It’s important that all our students take part, and if there are any concerns they should raise them directly with the class teacher.

Years 7 to 11 Assessments

Years 7-11 Assessments will proceed online this term – assessment schedules and notifications will be issued to students by their teachers.

All our Year 10 students were emailed a 2022 continuation of enrolment form if they wish to continue their language study with us in Year 11. Please make sure these forms are returned as soon as possible.

I understand that these are very uncertain times for all of us and our priority is the wellbeing and safety of all students.

Take care and stay well

Sana Zreika, Principal
