High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
SCL recognises and supports students who show high potential or advanced talent in language learning. Our programs are designed to challenge and extend these students, helping them achieve excellence while maintaining balance and wellbeing.
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
Subject acceleration at SCL
Subject acceleration allows students who demonstrate outstanding ability in languages to progress through their studies at a faster rate. It is offered to meet the learning needs of Year 9 students who have achieved, or have the potential to achieve, both Year 9 and 10 learning outcomes by the end of Year 9.
This pathway is intended for students who:
- demonstrate high potential and advanced skills in their language course
- show strong engagement and consistent achievement in their studies
- display readiness for senior-level content and expectations
- are socially and emotionally prepared for accelerated learning.
The decision to accelerate a student is made by the SCL Principal in consultation with:
- you and your child
- your child's weekday school principal and SCL coordinator
- our executive staff and teachers.
Each student is considered holistically - which means taking into account academic performance, motivation, and social-emotional readiness.
Help for your high potential child
If you believe child may be suited to acceleration, please contact the Campus Supervisor or Head Office to discuss eligibility and the application process.
