Student opportunities and activities
For us, learning a language is more than studying words - it’s about experiencing culture, connection and creativity. Our programs extend beyond the classroom to help students use their language skills in authentic and meaningful ways. Through a range of enrichment activities, cultural experiences and community partnerships, students build confidence, develop leadership and discover the joy of being global citizens.
Programs may include:
- Cultural workshops and cooking classes – exploring traditions, food and customs from the languages we teach.
- Performances and showcases – music, dance and drama that share language and culture with the wider community.
- Guest speakers and cultural ambassadors – meeting authors, educators, and community leaders who use languages in their careers.
- Creative language projects – podcasts, videos, digital storytelling and art inspired by students’ studies.
- Competitions and challenges – including regional and state language competitions that recognise achievement and creativity.
- Special events and excursions – celebrating Harmony Week, language days and cultural festivals across campuses.
Each campus may also run unique activities that reflect the languages and communities it serves.

Our extra-curricular highlights
Creating connections
We always say that languages are a great means to connect people and cultures. To put that to the test, our Year 11 and 12 Italian and Spanish students from Ashfield Campus competed in a race to complete cultural and linguistic challenges in the two languages.
Combining language learning with music
We encourage students to learn locally and communicate globally and our Korean in Context class at Strathfield Campus had the opportunity to integrate their artistic endowment into their studies. As part of our topic of study ‘Traditional values in contemporary society’, students shared their respective artistic skills from drumming and singing to a display of visual arts skills.
Learning through cooking
Stage 6 Filipino students at Bankstown Campus participated in a hands-on cooking activity where they prepared traditional Filipino breakfast dishes as part of our exploration of the concept Legacy. It was a meaningful connection to cultural heritage, allowing students to better understand how traditions are preserved and passed down through generations.
Virtual visit from overseas
Modern Greek students across all Campuses had the opportunity to attend a virtual incursion to meet the Evzones, the ceremonial guards of Greece. The unforgettable experience fostered a shared connection to heritage and history as students listened to an informative presentation which covered the history, role and responsibilities, uniform and training of the elite military group.
Unity in Diversity
Year 11 Turkish students at Petersham Campus participated in a meaningful activity to honour the Anzacs. They crafted a commemorative wreath, integrating their reflections on the concept of ‘Responsibility’, which is the focus of their Unit of Study, and its relevance to the Anzac spirit.
Students were encouraged to reflect on their roles as members of both the Turkish and Australian communities, fostering a sense of intercultural awareness and responsibility.
Spanish Cultural Excursion
Spanish students from Ashfield Campus enjoyed a cultural excursion to a Spanish- speaking bakery in Summer Hill. The excursion gave students the opportunity to practise their language skills by ordering and purchasing traditional bakery items. It was a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Hispanic cuisine, connect with their peers, and apply their language skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience brought language learning to life, fostering a deeper appreciation of Spanish culture.
